MTA - Male Thread Adapter. In this fitting threads are outward. FTA - FEMALE THREAD ADAPTER. In this fitting threads are inside.

FTA s are used to connect male threaded CP/Metal fittings like taps, showers etc., in a pipeline. whereas MTA s are used to receive Female threaded fittings.
